Four killed in train/vehicle crash in Cross County

CROSS COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A crash Saturday night between a train and a vehicle claimed the lives of four people in Cross County, according to the Arkansas State Police.

John W. Miller of Orange Park, Fla., Joetta R. Honey of Jonesboro, Nicholas L. Newton and Kayanna R. Newton, both of McCrory, were killed in the crash around 5:40 p.m. June 16.

The crash happened at a private drive just off Highway 49 in the Tilton community, ASP said.

According to a preliminary fatal crash summary, Miller was driving a 2009 Hyundai Sonata while Honey, Newton, and Newton were passengers. The report noted the vehicle attempted to cross the road at a railroad crossing and was struck by a southbound train.

The weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash.
