JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro girl is rallying behind a teen severely injured in a bicycle crash, and she wants you to get involved.

Mary-Beth Smith, a recent Jonesboro High School graduate, went to work after 16-year-old Quinton Tate suffered injuries from a bicycle crash in May.

"He used to play basketball and ride bikes outside our church and one day I went up to him and his friends and invited them in, he's been going to church ever since," said Smith. "That's how we met."

Tate is still in a Memphis hospital recovering from his injuries.

Meanwhile, Smith is trying to boost his confidence during recovery by ordering bracelets and selling them in the community.

"His nickname is the Beast, so I put "Behind the Beast" on the bracelets to symbolize that he's not alone," she said.

The bracelet also has Isaiah 41:10 on it, a verse to help people remember to pray for Tate.

"It's 'Don't be afraid for I am with you, don't be discouraged for I am your God,'" said Smith, while reading the bible verse. "I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."

So far, Smith has sold 200 bracelets and has raised $520.

"His doctors had recommended a certain kind of mattress that can help with his pain tolerance, so they're hoping to be able to purchase one of those," said Smith. "We hope this can help out with that and the extra go towards his rehab and stuff like that."

According to Smith, Tate is out of the Intensive Care Unit and alert. She said his next step will be rehab.

"He's going to be a walking testimony after this," said Smith. "We've been talking about how inspiring he's going to be to people and basketball players. He's a basketball player and he's going to get back on that court."
