LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A new roof at the Lawrence County Courthouse complex could save the county thousands of dollars a month in energy bills, County Judge John Thomison said Thursday as officials begin the final phase of a project to install the roof.

The county received an Arkansas Historic Preservation grant to do the project in three phases. Thomison said the first two phases are done.

Crews worked several years ago to replace the roof at the courthouse, while the roof at the county offices was replaced earlier this year. Now, Thomison said county officials are thankful that the final phase can start.

"It will be a relief to have a new roof, to be able to put up those things and not worry those issues and plus, then the energy efficiency that we're going to see after fixing these window gaskets and whatnot, will be well needed," Thomison said.

Crews will have to complete the work to finish the project around court sessions.
