Helen was dressed to impressed, wearing a pink knit sports shirt made for a dog when she appeared on Mid-Day.
With one ear up and one ear down, the four-year-old Terrier Mix laid down and got settled in for her interview with her hind legs stretched way back on the table.
“She’s 4-years-old and loves to play. If there’s any children in the house. She plays. She fetches. She loves kisses,” Tommye McNamara, Northeast Arkansas Humane Society volunteer, said. “She is the best dog you would ever want for your family. And everything we’ve got out there is so good, Diana. We’ve got kitties. We’ve got doggies, too.”
The Northeast Arkansas Humane Society is still counting proceeds from their annual fundraiser.
This year, it was called “Pet-A-Palooza” and was held on August 4 at Arkansas State University.
“We raised over $71,000 and money is still coming in,” McNamara said. "Skinny J’s is hosting the Humane Society’s next fundraiser on Thursday, September 20."
In the meantime, NEAHS wants to get Helen and other pets like her adopted.
“Helen has one ear up and one ear down. That gives her character,” Kelly Ford, NEA Humane Society volunteer said. “She loves attention, loves to play fetch and will let you give her all the kisses that you want. Who ever adopts her will be getting a wonderful dog. Her personality is just wonderful and does great with children. She's up to date on all vaccinations and will be spayed, micro chipped, and have all vaccinations that will be good for one year when adopted.”
The adoption fee for a dog is $160. The price for cats is $75.
The cost includes spay/neuter, micro-chipping, rabies and all other vaccinations that are good for one year.
