JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Things got a little tropical out on Heritage Plaza lawn Saturday evening at A-State.

Many students met up for a Welcome Back Luau before heading to the classrooms Monday morning.

The Student Activities Board, Residence Life, and Phi Beta Sigma hosted the event.

Current students and incoming freshmen enjoyed a buffet of luau-style food, sno-cones, activities, and DJ King Vick.

Others made sure to brave a large blow-up water slide.

A Region 8 News crew caught up with two freshmen who said this event was the perfect start to their college journey.

"I'm loving it because everyone just gets together, and you get to meet new people before classes start," said Kristen Lanni, an A-State freshman from White Hall.

"It's been a good way to get involved," said Haley Cheatham, an incoming freshman from Batesville. "When you are new it helps to not be as intimidated by the atmosphere and the campus and people."
