Judge Releases Piggott Man Convicted of Second Degree Murder in Death of Child

PARAGOULD, AR - A Piggott man convicted of murdering a two-year-old girl has been released and will not be returning to prison.  That decision came late this morning by Special Judge Gerald Pearson, who heard the re-trial of 49-year-old David Reagan this week in Paragould.

Reagan received a life sentence in 1990 for killing Sara Binkard, but his first-degree murder conviction was overturned on a technicality by a federal appeals court judge.

Yesterday, jurors once again found Reagan guilty, but on a lesser charge of second degree murder.  The lesser conviction set a legal precedent of sorts, and Judge Pearson met with both prosecuting and defense attorneys this morning to discuss the unique situation before rendering his sentence.

K8 News has a crew at the Greene County Courthouse, and will have a full report tonight on K8 News at Six.  We will also have reaction on the verdict and sentencing from Clay County, where Reagan's crime occured.
