LITTLE ROCK, AR - Legislators are working to speed through a package to boost funding for Arkansas schools.

The Joint Budget Committee recommended passage of House and Senate appropriation bills for $147.6 million in additional funding for school districts for the next two years.  The sum includes the $132.5 million, plus money for districts with declining enrollments and for isolated school districts.

The committee also recommended approval of a $50 million appropriation to repair school buildings.

Huckabee called the session so the Legislature can address a state Supreme Court order to improve school funding.
