BLACKBURN, Mo. (AP) _ Authorities have identified the pilot who

died when his single-engine airplane crashed in a field yesterday

near Blackburn.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 46-year-old William

Hewitt was checking natural gas pipelines in the Saline County area

when his plane crashed. He was working for a Kansas company.

Initial reports suggested the plane clipped a power line and

bounced once before crashing to the ground.

Investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration and the

National Transportation Safety Board are looking into the cause of

the crash.
