Panel Considers $1,000 Fine for Violators of State Smoking Ban

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The price of smoking inside a business could reach $1,000 under fines being considered by the state Board of Health.  The panel will hold a hearing next month on rules proposing fines for violators of the newly-passed indoor smoking ban.  Legislators this year approved a ban in most indoor places, but granted an exception for bars that don't allow anyone under age 21 inside.

The draft regulations state that an "employer or person in charge" violates the law if that person allows smoking where it's prohibited.
