Bootheel Detective Re-Opens Investigation of 1970 Slayings

KENNETT, MO - A southeast Missouri investigator hopes DNA testing helps crack an unsolved 1970 double slaying of a former Illinois man and his teenage girlfriend.

Detective Walter Dearing has re-opened the case of the slayings of 20-year-old Alan Brian Bradford and 17-year-old Mary Seutter.  Both were living in St. Louis prior to their deaths.

The bodies of Bradford, a native of Red Bud, Illinois, and Seutter, a Kansas City runaway, were found near a Dunklin County bridge.  Each was shot in the head.

The trial of a suspect ended in a mistrial, even though the suspect's brother testified against him and implicated him in the killings.

Now, Dearing says he wants to test blood found on the suspect's clothing against samples from the victims' survivors to see if the blood matches the victims.
