JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Camille Cathey was crowned Miss Arkansas in June and now she is getting ready to compete on the national stage for Miss America.

For the last six months, Camille has been traveling around the state of Arkansas, attending different events, volunteering, and visiting schools.

She says the journey has been nothing short of amazing.

“It’s the best for me because I love versatility and I get to wake up every day and do something different,” she said. “One of my favorite things to do is school visits. So I get to talk a lot about volunteerism and what that means to me and what it looks like in the world and how it doesn’t have to be something you dread doing and something you love doing.”

She has been preparing for Miss America since September, by doing mock interviews and practicing her talent, which is singing.

Camille said if she were to win Miss America, she wants to focus on being more boots-on-the-ground.

“Something I really want to work on is a boots-on-the-ground strategy. I think social media is such a big part of our job nowadays which I love, but there’s nothing like being in communities,” she said. “I wanted to visit all of the counties of Arkansas but as Miss America, I would want to visit all 50 states.”

Camille will travel to Orlando, Florida, to compete against 52 other women in the Miss America Pageant. The last Miss Arkansas to win Miss America was Savvy Shields in 2017.

Miss America will begin Dec. 31 through Jan. 5. For anyone who wants to watch Camille compete, it will be streamed on YouTube.
