Pocahontas woman killed, six injured in three-vehicle crash in Walnut Ridge
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) - A crash Tuesday afternoon in Lawrence County killed a Pocahontas woman and left six others, including two children, injured.
Arkansas State Police reported the crash occurred at 5:41 p.m. May 5 at the intersection of U.S. 63 and State Highway 91 in Walnut Ridge.
ASP said a northbound pickup driven by Ronald Simms, 58, of Thayer, Missouri, crossed the center line and struck head-on a southbound van driven by Sheila Quarterman, 58, of Pocahontas.
Simms’ truck then crossed back over the center line and struck a northbound SUV driven by Danny Whitmire, 63, of Walnut Ridge.
Quarterman died of her injuries, according to the preliminary fatal crash report. Her passengers—64-year-old Rebecca Dillingham of Ravenden Springs and a minor—suffered injuries and were hospitalized.
Whitmire, his two passengers—60-year-old Shelly Whitmire of Walnut Ridge and a minor—and Simms were also hospitalized.
ASP said it was raining and the road conditions were wet at the time of the crash.
