Volunteer firefighter arrested after injuring woman in crash while responding to emergency, police say
NEWBURY, Vt. (WCAX/Gray News) - Vermont authorities say a volunteer firefighter has been arrested after crashing his truck on the way to an emergency situation.
Vermont State Police identified the volunteer firefighter as 20-year-old Andrew Hayward. They said he had his emergency warning lights on in the vehicle when responding to the scene Friday night.
According to police, Hayward didn’t stop at a stop sign at an intersection in Newbury before crashing into another vehicle.
A 53-year-old woman was behind the wheel of the car that was struck. Authorities said she was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
Hayward was arrested for negligent operation and scheduled to appear in court in August, Vermont police said.
