LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - The Arkansas Department of Agriculture will spend over $500,000 to improve some of the Natural State’s back roads.
The department announced Wednesday that the Arkansas Unpaved Roads Program will provide $558,756 to nine projects across the state, including in Northeast Arkansas.
The projects receiving funds are:
- Arkansas County, Eldridge Road Project
- Independence County, Big Creek Road Project
- Lincoln County, Longview Road Project
- Pope County, Silex Road Project
- Scott County, Dooley Road Project
- Sevier County, Allen Road Project
- Sharp County, Bakers Cemetery Road
- Van Buren County, Brickey Road Project
- Yell County, Buckman Road
According to the news release, the projects will reduce sediment and nutrients from entering streams, rivers, and lakes.
“Nearly 50 percent of all public roads in Arkansas are unpaved and this program is an essential tool to fund safe, efficient improvement projects while training road maintenance professionals on best management practices,” said Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward.
