Red hot Red Wolves prepare for trip to #22 Southern Miss

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Red Wolves baseball is red hot.
Arkansas State is on a five game winning streak and are in 5th place in the Sun Belt. Mike Silva’s Red Wolves have 23 wins, their most since 2019.
“The locker room is really good, the dugout is really good,” Silva said Wednesday afternoon. “They’re fighting for each other. It means a lot to them. Honestly, when it gets like that, you can do less as a coach. You try to get them on the right track, get out of their way. And they’re playing for something right now, and giving it to us. So just trying to keep them on that track.”
A Golden Hurricane is surging at the plate for the Red Wolves. JHS alum Jake Henry Williams has 3 home runs and 8 RBI in the last 4 games. He had a two-run blast Tuesday night to spark a comeback in Little Rock.
“I came up and I knew they were going to try to stay away from me at the beginning of the at-bat,” Williams said. “So I just waited, bided my time, fought off his pitches. And I got one in the middle of the plate that I could drive at the end. Sitting on the heater, making them throw me my pitch, taking theirs. It’s pretty much it.”
A-State takes on two ranked Sun Belt opponents the next two weekends. The Red Wolves head to Hattiesburg to face #22 Southern Miss.
