IZARD COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) - The Izard County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam targeting families of inmates.

The sheriff’s office said scammers are using publicly available information to contact inmate families and claiming the inmate can be released from custody if money is sent immediately.

Scammers may pretend to work for law enforcement and “use other inmates’ names to sound convincing.”

The sheriff’s office said it will never demand payment for the release of an inmate or accept bond over the phone.

No legitimate law enforcement officer will pressure someone to send money immediately.

The sheriff’s office said if someone gets a call involving an inmate at the Izard County Jail and the caller requests money, hang up immediately and call the sheriff’s office at 870-368-4203.
