A-State Track & Field concludes action at New Mexico Collegiate Classic

Several standout performances closed out the final day of competition for the Arkansas State track and field teams at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Saturday.

Bradley Jelmert took the top spot in the men’s pole vault, clearing 5.55m (18-2.5) to win his fourth event title in as many meets this season.

Willem Coertzen finished third in the men’s shot put, capping a strong series with a personal-best toss of 18.33m (60-1.75). Chris Boyd placed eighth by uncorking a throw of 16.88m (55-4.75) – a mark which stands 10th in program history. Menachem Chen matched his career best with a mark of 15.86m (52-0.5) to place 13th, one spot ahead of Noa Isaia’s top throw of 15.34m (50-4).

Michelle Ogbemudia led four athletes in the women’s shot put, placing eighth with a throw of 15.19m (49-10). Selase Sampram placed 11th with a mark of 14.69m (48-2.5), while Nyaluet Diew (13.38m/43-10.75) and Liya Guy (11.29m/37-0.5) placed 16th and 26th, respectively.

In the men’s mile, Lasse Funck placed seventh with a time of 4:21.88.

Will Glass finished ninth in 60-meter hurdles qualifying with a time of 7.82, while Izzy Daines ran a season-best 9.03 in the women’s qualifying round.

Hannes Fahl broke the school record in the men’s 800 meters on Friday night to highlight the first day of action for the Arkansas State track and field teams at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic inside the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Fahl ran a time of 1:49.13 to place fifth overall in the invite section of the men’s 800, with Lasse Funck following close behind with a personal-best time of 1:51.25 to place sixth.

In the women’s 800 meters, Cheyenne Melvin was the top collegiate finisher, placing second overall with a mark of 2:08.61.

Bella Coscetti cleared an indoor-best 3.89m (12-9) to place ninth in the women’s pole vault, a mark that stands ninth in school history. In the B section, Avery Shell vaulted a season-best 3.74m (12-3.25) and placed fourth, while Kaci Andrus recorded a clearance of 3.59m (11-9.25) to place sixth.

Trace South registered a season-best clearance in the men’s pole vault, finishing fourth in his section with a mark of 4.80m (15-9).

Spencer Taylor ran a personal-best 48.12 in the men’s 400 to record an eighth-place finish.

In the women’s weight throw, Michelle Ogbemudia uncorked a toss of 19.57m (64-2) and placed third, while Nyaluet Diew recorded a personal-best mark of 16.28m (53-5) in a 12th-place finish. Noa Isaia placed 14th (16.81m/55-2) in the men’s event, and Chris Boyd placed 17th with a personal-best throw of 15.15m (49-8).

Colby Eddowes placed eighth in the men’s long jump, leaping 7.15m (23-5.5), while Izzy Daines jumped a season-best 5.43m (17-9.75) in the women’s event.
