Star of Oscar-nominated Arkansas documentary leaves for the Academy Awards

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT/KARK) - After his documentary was nominated for an Oscar, one Arkansas barber is now heading to Los Angeles for the biggest night in the film industry.
According to our content partner KARK, Arlo Washington, star of the documentary “The Barber of Little Rock” wanted the film to explore the racial wealth gap in America.
“My hope is that it will enlighten and educate the minds of people so they will embrace humanity and be a help to one another,” Washington said.
He said that he has his tux ready, and is excited for the Oscar experience.
“We were talking about it the whole time,” Washington said. “I wonder what celebrities we will see, how exciting it will be, will we get a chance to go on the stage.”
Washington also said that he hopes he can inspire others to follow their dreams just as he did.
“Just keep going, don’t quit, don’t take no for an answer,” he said.
The Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 10 in Los Angeles, California.
