JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Police arrested a man after he led them on a chase, all while a 10-year-old was in the car.

On Monday, Feb 3, Jonesboro police responded to the 1500 block of Belt Street to reports of shots heard.

When police arrived, they found a white Cadillac Escalade, driven by Leon Selvy, leaving the area at a high rate of speed, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Police attempted a traffic stop, but Selvy fled from the scene.

The affidavit stated that while police chased after the vehicle, a young black man ran away from the vehicle’s driver’s side towards the apartments.

Police stated that Selvy wasn’t wearing a seat belt after he leaned into the passenger seat of the vehicle and “threw a gun out of the passenger side window.”

The chase ended when Selvy pulled into the 500 block of State Street and police took him into custody without incident.

Police said in the affidavit that they also found Selvy’s 10-year-old son in the SUV.

In the affidavit, officers said they obtained footage that showed Selvy driving after a white pickup truck, fired several gunshots out of the driver’s side of the vehicle. In the video, Selvy pulls in front of a residence, points a handgun toward the pickup truck and yells, “I’m a real shooter.”

Investigators found a vehicle that was struck by “what appeared to be a bullet and damaged the window to the car.” Officers also found an AR-15-style pistol where Selvy threw it out the window.

Craighead County District Court Judge David Boling found probable cause Wednesday to charge Selvy with counts of terroristic act/shoots at or projects an object that causes property damage, endangering the welfare of a minor in the 1st degree, fleeing, driving while license canceled, suspended or revoked, seat belt use required.

Boling set Selvy’s bond at $72,000 cash surety.
