JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - A man accused of selling narcotics at a Jonesboro hotel was arrested after tip led law enforcement officers to his room.

Craighead County District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause on May 16 to charge Matthew Glen Hughes with possession of meth or cocaine greater than 2g but less than 10g, a class C felony, possession of drug paraphernalia, a class D felony, and possession of schedule VI substances, a class A misdemeanor.

On May 14, Jonesboro police received a tip about two possible suspects selling narcotics from a hotel room in Jonesboro. The suspects, Matthew and Brianna Hughes, were both on parole or probation, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Officers contacted a subject at the hotel who said the occupants of the room, Matthew and Briana Hughes, “were supposed to sell him narcotics.”

According to the report, the subject “agreed to knock on the door to draw the pair out,” because the officers believed the pair would be unlikely to respond to law enforcement.

After the door was opened, the suspects were positively identified and officers searched the room. They located 6.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 11.7 grams of marijuana, and various drug paraphernalia.

Hughes was taken into custody and is currently held on a $35,000 cash/surety bond. His next court date will be June 27 at the Craighead County Courthouse.
