Man accused of entering multiple A-State buildings, stealing VR headsets
JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Police arrested a 28-year-old man after they said he entered multiple buildings on the Arkansas State University campus and stole two virtual reality headsets.
According to the affidavit, during the overnight hours of May 22, Devonte Jones entered the Education and Communication building and stole two Meta Quest VR headsets and accessories, valued at $1,081.
The court documents stated he also entered the Student Union, where he took a jacket and rummaged through drawers in offices.
“When the defendant was arrested, one of the items stolen from a drawer was located in his pocket,” the affidavit stated.
During a Mirandized interview, Jones reportedly admitted to the thefts and provided detectives with the locations where he sold the items.
“The retailers who sold the property were contacted and officers were able to recover one Meta Quest VR headset and two chargers,” the affidavit stated. “One headset was sold before it could be recovered. Express Pawn in Jonesboro is in possession of the remaining VR headset and [is] requesting $110 to release the item.”
On Wednesday, June 4, Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to charge Jones with two counts of commercial burglary and theft of $5,000 or less but greater than $1,000 from a building.
Fowler ordered Jones be held on a $35,000 cash/surety bond to await his arraignment in circuit court on June 27. However, the judge noted that Jones has a parole hold that must be cleared before he can be released on bond.
