Woman arrested after firing a handgun around kids

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Jonesboro police arrested a West Memphis woman after officers said she fired a pistol in a residential area where children were present.

Prior to their arrival, dispatch advised that a woman, later identified as Kadaisha Markee’ Rancia Taylor, 21, of West Memphis, had fired a gun, pointed it at multiple individuals and fled the scene in a silver passenger vehicle with temporary tags.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with multiple victims and witnesses. One victim said she and another person arrived at the residence to drop off a child when they observed Taylor parked in the driveway. Witnesses said Taylor had been posting threatening statements and videos on social media about one of the victims throughout the day.

According to witness statements, one of the victims approached Taylor’s vehicle when Taylor exited holding a handgun.

She raised it into the air and fired one round before getting into a fight with the victim.

At that time, a juvenile exited the vehicle carrying an AR-style firearm and pointed it at three people, threatening to kill them.

Witnesses said that after the fight broke up, Taylor pointed the handgun at four people and threatened to shoot them.

She returned to her vehicle and left the scene, striking one person.

While officers were gathering statements, the suspect vehicle drove past the residence again. Officers began searching the area and shortly after located it parked on the 1400 block of E. Washington St.

Officers detained Taylor, the juvenile and additional occupants.

During a probable-cause search, officers located a Smith & Wesson SD40 handgun, a small glass jar containing suspected marijuana, and an AR-style pistol and magazine hidden under the spare tire in the trunk.

Taylor faces aggravated assault charges, is being held on a $50,000 cash or surety bond, and is scheduled to appear in court July 30, 2026.
