STEELE, Mo. (KAIT) - The Pemiscot County town of Steele is under a boil order after a main break drained the city’s water tower.

Contractors were working on a 10-inch water line when a major break occurred, causing a significant loss of pressure and draining the water tower, a Monday morning news release said.

By 12:30 p.m., the line had been repaired and water pressure was gradually returning.

As a precautionary measure, city officials said in an updated release that a boil water alert had been issued due to the pressure dropping low.

“There is no known exposure or contamination,” the updated release said. “This being done out of caution for public safety.”

Residents should boil water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth or making ice until further notice.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding as contractors and Steele Public Works employees worked together to complete the repair as quickly as possible,” the release said.
