Batesville memorial bike ride honors late parks director Jeff Owens

BATESVILLE, Ark. (KAIT) -The Batesville community is coming together on Saturday, June 6, to honor a man who spent his life trying to make it a better place.
Jeff Owens served as Batesville’s parks and recreation director for nearly 14 years, overseeing more than $65 million in improvements before he died last year after a battle with stomach and esophageal cancer.
Saturday morning friends, family and neighbors will hop on their bikes in his honor.
The memorial ride was organized by 16-year-old Batesville resident Chloe Massey, who said Owens inspired her to serve her community.
“He had done so much for this community, and he had taught me so much about advocating for what you are passionate about. I am passionate about serving my community and so, this was such a great way to honor my community but also honor him,” Massey said.
The ride kicks off Saturday at 9 a.m.
Day-of registration is available between 7:45 and 8:45 a.m. at the pocket park on Main Street.
